Best Reader View ("we", "our", or "the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our browser extension.

Your data is safe. All processing is done locally in Chrome. No history is sent out to network.

Information We Collect

No Automatic Data Collection

Best Reader View is designed with your privacy as a priority. The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, browsing history, or usage data to our servers or any third party. All page processing — including article extraction, rendering, and text analysis — is performed entirely within your local browser environment.

Locally Stored Data

The following information is stored exclusively on your local device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs and never leaves your browser:

• Preferences: Your selected font, font size, color theme, and other display settings.
• Auto-open configuration: Your preference for whether Best Reader View should open automatically on certain sites.
• Notes and highlights: Any notes you create or text you highlight while using the reader view. These are stored locally in your browser's storage.

How We Use Information

Since we do not collect any personal information, there is no use of such information beyond providing the core functionality of the Extension locally on your device:

• Page rendering: The Extension reads the content of the web page you are currently viewing to extract and reformat the main article. This processing happens entirely in your browser and no page content is transmitted externally.
• Local preferences: Your settings are saved locally to personalize your reading experience across sessions.
• Notes and highlights: Stored locally for your convenience when revisiting articles.

Share Feature

Best Reader View provides an optional share feature that allows you to share highlighted text to Twitter or Facebook. This feature is entirely user-initiated:

• No content is shared automatically or without your explicit action.
• When you choose to share, you will be redirected to the respective third-party platform (Twitter or Facebook) to complete the action.
• These third-party platforms have their own privacy policies governing the data you choose to share with them.
• The Extension does not send any browsing history or personal data to these platforms beyond the specific text you choose to share.

Data Security

Because Best Reader View processes all data locally and does not transmit your information to external servers, there is minimal risk of data breach through our service. Your notes, highlights, and preferences remain on your device under the protection of your browser's built-in security measures.

Third-Party Services

The Extension is based on Mozilla Firefox's open-source Readability module, which has been modified for enhanced pre- and post-processing. This module operates entirely locally and does not communicate with any external service.

The share feature provides links to Twitter and Facebook; these third-party services are governed by their own privacy policies and terms of service.

Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
